Full Line-up of Fuel Efficient Tires

There is now a SmartWay GT Radial truck tire for every axle position with the recent SmartWay verification of the GT Radial GT979 FS trailer tire. It joins the GT Radial GSL213 FS steer tire and GT669+ FS drive tire, both of which received SmartWay verification in 2010.

This is great news for GT Radial commercial customers because trailer tires have a significant impact on fuel economy. On a tractor-trailer combination, the steer tires contribute 15-20 percent of the tires' overall contribution to fuel economy, drive tires 30-40 percent, and trailer tires about 40-50 percent.

Based upon data provided by tire manufacturers and testing and research conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA has determined that certain tire models can provide a reduction in NOx emissions and an estimated fuel savings of 3% or greater, relative to the best-selling new tires for line haul trucks, when used on all three axles.

After testing for several years, EPA has determined that a variety of technologies including the GT Tire FS (Fuel Saving) truck tire line up, can contribute with fuel economy and can reduce emissions when compared to regular tires, especially when used on Class 8, line-haul trucks. To further improve fuel savings, low rolling resistance tires can be used with lower-weight aluminum wheels.

In order to be eligible for funding under the Diesel Emission Reduction Program, verified low rolling resistance tires must be specifically listed on EPA’s verified technology list
